"I've had a rough one" aka I wish I was still in preschool

Through all of this craziness, my family has been great. Farmboy has taken over the last bottle of the evening and has poured glasses of wine without even being asked. Lora makes me happy with each gummy grin she sends my way...But Kelly has been the absolute best. I love to hear her stories at the end of the day- stories from daycare.

The day we found out about the possible lay offs, I was very low. I went home a little early and started dinner. I cried and cried...tried to get it all out before the kids got home. BUT- when they walked through the door, I was a weeping crumpled up mess on the kitchen floor. Kelly came up to me, crawled into my lap, and sighed. She put her grubby little hand to her forehead and wiped away sweat. Then she said, "Mom, looks like you've had a rough one...I've had a rough one too!" I laughed and asked her what happened.

Apparently, she had a fight with a boy at school. He said she couldn't sing the Little Einsteins song, and she shouldn't watch it. That is his show. Kelly, being the princess that she is, told him to back off. He couldn't tell her what to do. Then, I heard they both visited not nice (time out). Next the class went to the park, and to her astonishment, Kelly had to hold the boy's hand (story sounds rough doesn't it). They played together, arguing the whole time I am sure, but not walking away from each other. They had to hold hands on the way back to school. Then the class went swimming- Einsteins forgotten. Sounds like an average toddler story... but the dramatic way in which she told the story was priceless. Lots of hands on hips and scowling faces- you could almost see the tiara on her little head. I had to smile. I was like that when I was little- a grand story teller...except I was shy. I wouldn't have fought with the little boy. I am so proud of her for standing up for herself...even prouder that she and the boy are still friends.

She made me feel better for sure. It made me think about what was going on around me... I am healthy. I have great kids (also healthy). I have Farmboy. I had to think how lucky I am to have such a great support team. (Thanks family!) Maybe things won't be so bad if I get laid off. It's only a job, right?

First steps

Hello. This is my first attempt at blogging...soooo it's probably going to be pretty lame....and it's probably going to break blogger rules/etiquette. This is where I will apologize ahead of time for any mistakes I unknowingly make.

I've wanted to start a blog for a while now. God knows I read a ton of them- or at least enough of them to intimidate me a little bit. Yes, you intimidate me- all of you talented, witty mommy and daddy bloggers. Is there a place for me out here? I hope so. I am certainly going to give it a try...besides this might be a good outlet for me- a way to help me keep what's left of my sanity.

Guess I should try and think of something to write about. I mean should i write about the kids? marriage? work? So many things to talk about and yet I can't think of one thing to get me started! See- I am intimidated!

I guess I can tell you a little bit about me. Here it goes:

ME:
I am a 33 yr old graphic designer. I have 2 great kids, 1 mostly great husband, and a fantastic, completely untrained dog. I am totally shy until I get to know you. I tend to babble sometimes. I've not yet met a glass of wine that I didn't like.

THE GIRLIES:
KELLY, 2 1/2 years old going on 13. She is teeny tiny but thinks she's a giant. Shy until you get to know her- just like me. She's very smart- (what mom wouldn't say that about her kid)- has a huge vocabulary. VERY DRAMATIC! She loves all things princess. She loves her mommy and her daddy...her little sis too. Do not give her stickers if you know what is good for you. She's an addict.
LORA, 5 mos old. She is a big baby- literally; 20 lbs and 28 inches long. Still developing her own personality (I love this stage!). Almost always has a smile plastered on her face.

THE MAN:
FARMBOY... 38 years old. Former high school football player and former farm boy. Very masculine....somewhat disappointed to find out that he is a "girlmaker." Don't get me wrong, he completely adores his girls- teaching them how to do a three-point stance...telling them fairy tales where his favorite sports heroes save the princesses not to mention the world. He's very funny, totally not PC, completely flawed and I adore him.

THE BEASTIE
My first baby. Medium sized, herding dog. Thinks he's a person- a girl person-needless to say he has issues. I have been feeling more sibling rivalry coming from him than from Kelly. Farmboy is disappointed that the only other penis in our house belongs to our girlie dog.

Well, I guess that's a little bit about me...a little bit about our family. I will definitely have to think about what to write next...maybe a kid story...or a work horror story (lay offs are on the horizon).... i don't know, but it'll be better than this post! If you've actually made it to the end of this catastrophe- thank you. You are a saint! or maybe a masochist!

Later gator!
